I went to Little Neck yesterday to see my sister Mrs. Ballou and stopped on my way and took a look at the inscriptions on the tombstones in the burial lots and found the following:
Roe Haviland, Sr., d. Mch. 1, 1844 (my grandfather); aged 76 years, 5 months and 18 days.
Roe Haviland, Jr., d. Nov. 9, 1856; aged 58 years, 1 month and 29 days (my father);
Caleb Haviland, d. Oct. 29, 1854; aged 27 years, 11 months and 8 days (my brother);
Mary E. Haviland Hicks, b. Nov. 15, 1828; d. Dec. 28, 1892 (my sister);
William R. Haviland, b. Aug. 25, 1830; d. May 8, 1881 (my brother);
Julia A. Cornell, b. Dec. 16, 1835 (my sister);
Bloodgood Haviland Cutter, b. Aug. 5, 1817 (my brother).
I found the old Bible in the possession of my niece, Mrs. Emma Schenck, daughter of my sister, Mary E. Hicks. It was printed in 1700. I found the following in the book:
Richard Cutter, d. Apr. 24, 1815;
R. H. Cutter, b. Dec. 12, 1809 (my brother);
John Cutter, d. Feb. 17, 1871 (my brother); aged 59 years, 6 months and 17 days;
Mary E. Haviland-Cutter-Haviland, d. June 9, 1839; aged 45 years, 1 month and 25 days (my mother);
Mary Bloodgood, b. June 22, 1762 (my mother's mother);
Susanna Cutter, m. John Purchase (my sister); b. Feb. 14, 1814.
I found my sister, Mrs. Ballou, better but very weak from an attack of pleurisy. When you feel like it take a run up and see me and I will spare no pains to make your visit pleasant.
