O., Grafton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, future members of the 15th Mass., living in a boarding house owned by Charles Evans, 49, b. ME, and his family as well as Elish S. Livermore, later of the 15th as George Davis, shoemaker, age 40, b. MA.
- At the time of his enlistment in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, George gave his occupation as shoemaker.
- In 1861 George was living at Grafton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

On 12 Jul 1861 George mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Grafton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. - George Davis and Charles Davis served together in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry in Company G. They are possibly brothers, but proof is missing as of Apr 2011. Please contact the Webmaster if you have further information.

- On 21 Oct 1861 George was taken prisoner at The Battle of Ball's Bluff, Leesburg, Virginia.

- On 20 Aug 1862 George ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts by discharge for reasons not given in the 1870 roster.

Davis and Alfred Warren Davis Sr., and William M. Davis, Freeman Davis and James Lafayette Davis, two brothers and their three uncles, served together in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.
- On 30 Oct 1861 at "The Worcester Spy", Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, George P. Davis was included among "The Killed Wounded and Missing of the Fifteenth Regiment," after Ball's Bluff.

- On 22 Sep 1862 his brother, Alfred Warren Davis Sr., died at Hagerstown, Maryland, of wounds.
- On 30 Jul 1863 his father, Stephen H. Davis, died at Leicester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, of dropsey at age 62.
- Three of Stephen H. Davis' sons and two of his grandsons served in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.
- On 5 Jan 1864, George was reenlisted, having received a bounty of $86.
- On 8 May 1864 his nephew, Freeman Davis, died at The Battle of the Wilderness, Orange County, Virginia.

- NOTE: With the deaths of Freeman and George P. Davis, Stephen H. and Clara (Demeritt) Davis had lost three sons and a grandson in the war.
- On 27 Jul 1864 George ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts by "administrative" transfer to the 20th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, clearly in error.
- Clara, his mother, outlived George and died on 7 Jun 1866 at Leicester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, of consumption at age 67.
- On 22 Oct 1868 David M. Morse, George's father-in-law, made application for a pension as guardian to George's surviving dependants, and received certificate number 131980.
- On 17 Dec 1881 George's daughter, Alice Davis married Arthur F. Hiscox at Charlton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
- George P. Davis was included on the Civil War memorial at Dexter Memorial Hall, Charlton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
