C) with John Donaldson, may be Charles CAMPBELL, who joined 31 July 63, also credited from Barnstable County. The other Charles' in Co. C do not fit the time and place for various reasons. This needs further investigation.

- On 17 Nov 1860 John Donley married Johanna Manning, daughter of John Manning, at Millbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts, in a first marriage for him and the second for her. She was the widow of Samuel Hastings.
- At the time of his enlistment in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, in 1862, John gave his occupation as operative, in the MASSCW, and jack-spinner in Ford's history.
- In 1862 John was living at Millbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

- On 27 Jul 1864 John ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts by administrative transfer to the 20th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry as absent prisoner.

- John Donnelly was enumerated in the 1890 US Federal census, Veteran's Schedule in Jun 1890 at Athol, Worcester County, Massachusetts, as having served in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, Co. D, noting that he has rheumatism and heart disease from being in prison after Petersburg.
- He died on 17 May 1891 at Athol, Worcester County, Massachusetts, of rheumatism of the heart and liver disease.
- He was buried in May 1891 at Calvary Cemetery, Athol, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
