He was 33 years old. - On 22 Jun 1864 Charles was taken prisoner at Petersburg, Prince George County, Virginia, and confined in Andersonville, Georgia.
- On 27 Jul 1864 Charles ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts by administrative transfer to the 20th MVI - while absent as a prisoner.
- Starting after 22 Jun 1864, Charles also served in the the 10th Tennessee, Confederate States Army.

- In 1890 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, Charles appears in the voter registration lists in Ward 18, 10 S. May St., Arnold, Chas. H., b. MA, resident 6 mos. and 22 years, as well as on the 1892 list on Laflin Street.
- Annie E. Arnold was enumerated as the widow of Charles H. Arnold, of the 15th Massachusetts, in the 1890 Veterans' Schedules of the US Federal Census in Jun 1890 at 4 Welsh Street, Malden, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, mentioning his service in the 5th Charleston Light Artillery and the 15th Massachusetts, and that he was never heard from after joining the 15th.
- Note: this man appears to have had a very "colorful" life. The 1890 veterans' registration proves that the 1860 census is the correct man. The 1870 explains why his MA wife thinks he just disappeared. Please contact the Webmaster if you have further information.
