Mary Jane's mother, Sarah, died in Elm, probably in the birth of the baby Sarah. She was buried there in Nov 1820. James Christian Bullard returned to Gedney, where the baby died 4 months later.
A search of Gedney Parish baptismal and burial records for 20 years both sides of Mary Jane's baptism shows only the burial of Sarah Bullard, infant daughter of John and Sarah Bullard of Gedney Dyke, 5 Mar 1821.
In 1841, the Harnwells are living closely with the extended Bullard family in Upwell near Elm. The names James Christian Harnwell and John Marshall Harnwell are both in the family memory of the Bullard side of the family.
