  • Roelof Martense Schenck Emigrant of 1650 was born circa 1630 at Amersfoort, The Netherlands, son of Marten Peterse Schenck.
  • On 28 June 1650 at New Amsterdam, Kings County, New York, Roelof Martense Schenck Emigrant of 1650 arrived with his brother Jan and sister Anetje in the same ship with Jacob Van Cowenhoven, who had been sent to Holland by the Collinists.
  • In 1660 Roelof Martense Schenck married Neeltje Gerretse van Couwenhoven, daughter of Gerret Wolfertse van Couwenhoven and Aeltje Cornelis Kool.
  • On 29 January 1661 at Flatlands, Kings County, New York, Roelof Martense Schenck settled and obtained a patent for a grant of land of 23 morgans, which would be about 46 acres. Subsequently he purchased from the heirs of Gerrit Lockermans 200 acres in the same town with "building, billage lot, meadows, etc." At one assessment of taxation he was rated higher than anyone in that section of the country.
  • He was a magistrate between 1662 and 1664 at Flatlands, Kings County, New York.
  • In 1665 Roelof Martense Schenck represented Flatlands in the Hempstead convention.
  • In 1672 Neeltje Gerretse van Couwenhoven, his wife, died.

  • T. G. Bergen writes in a footnote -- "It is claimed by some of the Schenck family that Jan and Roelof Martense Schenck are sons of Marten Schenck of Nydack or Nydeggen, a town about 18 miles southeast from Aix-la-Chapelle; that Marten's father was Peter Schenck of Nydack, b. in 1547 at Goch, a small town about 10 miles south of Cleves, m. in 1580 Johanna Scherpenzeel; and that this Peter was a brother of the celebrated Marten Schenck, a soldier
    of fortune and an officer of distinction in the wars of the Low Countries.
    Without the evidence which has been gathered in Holland of the genealogy of the family, the name would imply a relationship to the soldier and warrior, but it is singular, if this account is correct, that the name of Peter does not appear in the family until the fourth generation, when it is well known that it was the custom of the Netherlanders to perpetuate the names of their ancestors, which custom prevails among many of their descendants in this country to this day. These Schencks, according to tradition, owned vessels which traded with the Netherlands, which often,
    by way of Rockaway Inlet, came into Flatlands or Jamaica Bay to deliver or receive goods from their owners.
    There was a "Wessel Schenck" among the members of the company chartered Oct. 11, 1614, for an exclusive trade of three years with the New Netherlands, as per p. 149 of Vol. I. of Doc. of Col. His

  • Eldert Lucas Elderts was born in 1673 at The Netherlands, son of Lucas Elderts Emigrant.
  • On 4 May 1674 Eldert Lucas Elderts and Lucas Elderts Emigrant leased, for four years, of Cornelis Janse Boomgart, his bouwery in Flatbush. (attributed to Eldert in the Voorhees book, but likely applies to his father).
  • Eldert Lucas Elderts was was on the assessment rolls of Flatlands in 1676.
  • In 1682 at Jamaica, Queens County, New York, Eldert Lucas Elderts bought a farm and settled.
  • In 1684 Eldert Lucas Elderts purchased a house and lot in the village of Jamaica.
  • On 19 May 1692 Eldert Lucas Elderts bought, of William Creed, forty acres of land at Jamaica, on the Brooklyn and Jamaica Turnpike and Eldert's land, on which he settled, having previously in.
  • On 5 May 1704 Eldert Lucas Elderts married Styntje Hendrick Hendricksen, daughter of Hendrick Harman Swering (Hendricksen) Emigrant before 1648 and Egbertje Jan Brocq, estimation, based on age of eldest known child.
  • Eldert Lucas Elderts left a will on 23 February 1714 proved 17 apr 1722, recorded in the Surrogate's Office, New York City, Liber 9, p. 291.
  • He died before 1722 at New York.

  • From the Voorhies Genealogy - He was with Elbert Elbertse Stoothoff a representative of Flatlands in the General Assembly held at the City Hall in New Amsterdam on 10 Apür 1664, and was also a delegate to the Convention held 26 mar 1674, at New Orange to confer with Gov. Colve. He took the oath of allegiance in Flatlands Sept 1687. On 8 mar 1691, he bought of John Tilton all his real estate in Gravesend, L.I. (Tilton reserving the use thereof for twelve months unless he should sooner remove from the town. On 20 June 1699 he conveyed this property for 295 pounds to his son Albert Coerte, as per Gravesend Town Records. He also joined in a deed, with his brothers and brother-in-law, Lucas Stevense, John Stevense, Albert Stevense, John Kierstead, Barrent Jurianz, Alexander Sympson, and Albert Voorhees, to his son, Garret Coerte, of "all that piece or parcel of land lying in the town of Flatlands in Kings County, containing by estimation six-and-seventy acres, bounded, etc. Deed dated 8 May 1694.
