    Walter In the name of God, Amen. I, David Roe, of Flushing in Queens County, being weak and indisposed in body.
    I leave to my son, Nathaniel Roe, all my housing, lands, and meadows in the town of Flushing, and my great cedar chest, which stands in my eastward room;
    And 1/2 of the provisions, cider, corns, etc., and he is to pay 1/2 of the funeral expenses.
    I leave to my son, John Roe, œ20, and my negro boy, Sam, and the other half of the provisions, cider, corn, etc.
    To Elizabeth, Patience, and Mary, the children of my daughter, Elizabeth Totens, deceased, œ10 each. I make my son, Nathaniel Roe, sole executor, and my friends, Samuel Bowne and Francis Doughty, executors in Trust.

    Witnesses, Henry Taylor, Jonathan Thorne, James Clement.

  • From C. A. Torrey - "David ROE, immigrant ancestor of one branch of the Roe Family in the United States of America, was an early settler at Flushing, Long Island, where he is mentioned in the tax or "rate list" of 1675. Owing to the destruction of the Flushing land records by fire in 1789, the year in which he became a resident of the town is unknown, but it was probably about 1666. His wife Mary was living in 1698, when the New York Proviancial Census was taken, but she is not mentioned in his will dated 26 Dec 1702. He was a carpentzer and farmer. He was among the well-to-do citizens of Flushing, owning lands, farm stock, carpenter's tools, and two slaves, "Sam" and "Hannah." He died before 12 July 1707, when his will was proved."
  • In addition, Mr. Torrey states in a footnote: "David ROE was probably a brother of John Roe of Brookhaven, Long Island, who also named his sons John and nathaniel and daughters Elizabeth and Mary. A History of the John Roe Branch of the family is in preparation. Attention is also called to the fact that a revised and enlarge dedition of the history of the David Roe line may be published."
