  • On 5 September 1734 James Thorne married Mary Lawrence, daughter of Daniel Lawrence and Mary Redwood.
  • James Thorne was an Ensign of the Foot Company of Flushing of which Thomas Lawrence was Captain.
  • Lieutenant James Thorn of Col. Hicks Regiment for Queens County, submitted an account of forty-for days' service of himself and men in the fort at Schenectady amounting to Pounds 113:19:6.
  • James Thorne was named in the will of Daniel Lawrence on 14 March 1755.
  • The following may apply to him: "1758. Run Away. June 24th, from Jamaica, James Thorne, carpenter, red hair, freckled sandy complexion, a musket ball scar on his right leg. He had on a blue great coat, red plush waiscoat without sleeves, an ordinary hat with narrow silver lace on it, and a cut wig. He took a horse with a snip on the nose and a brand; also a Russel hunting saddle with green worsted girt, without housing or saddle cloth, a snaffle bridle with buckle at the bits. Forty shillings reward for man and horse or 20s for either, and charges paid by Caleb Wheaton."

The runaway was very well turned out for a carpenter, but no evidence has come to light to prove that the husband of Mary Lawrence ever stole a horse, or that the Lieutenant of Militia was ever wounded.
