  • Between 1804 and 1808 his mother, Mary Catherine Doser, died.
  • On 15 June 1808 his widowed father, John (Johannes) Roller of Dunmore, remarried to Magdalene Prince at Timberville, Rockingham County, Virginia.
  • Michael Roller began military service, age 19, on 15 August 1814 being drafted into War of 1812.
  • He was a Private on the rolls of Capt. M Harrison's Company of Rifelmen from RockinghamCo., of the 116 Rgt. Virginia Militia, attached to (Trueheart's) 1 Regt. VA Militia (Trueheart's) , at Camp Bottom's Bridge. Statement that he transferred. He received $8 pay for a month's enlistment. between 29 August 1814 and 28 September 1814.
  • He was a Private on the rolls of Capt. Alex Campbell's Co. of Riflemen, (Green's) 2 Elite Corps, VA Militia., on a roll dated Charles City Court House, 26 Nov 1814 between 29 September 1814 and 30 October 1814.
  • He was on the Muster Roll as present between 31 October 1814 and 20 December 1814.
  • He was on a payroll dated at Richmond, there is a remark that "3 to 10 days added to this pay roll for travelling hime a distance of from 60 to 200 miles." on 3 May 1815.
  • He ended military service in 1815.
  • Michael Roller's service in the War of 1812 does not seem to coincide with information which says he was a Mennonite. However, he was 19 years of age during the war and may have become a Mennonite after his service period. Since he was originally baptised at Raders Lutheran Church, this is most likely the situation.
  • On 27 September 1819 Michael Roller, age 24, married Elizabeth Driver, age 19, daughter of Lewis Driver Jr., settled 1818 Timberville and Barbara Burkhart, at Rockingham County, Virginia.
  • There is an administrator bond for David Roller's will, dated 28 Feb 1831, showing Henry Phillips as administrator, and Michael Roler as bondsman.
  • A letter written 18 Oct 1837, to James E Heath from Louis G. Rice in New Market:
    "Dear Sir,
    I recd the communication written by John Wilson for Commission on 10 Oct 1837 in Regard to Michael Roller's Landwarrant - You say he is only entitled to 40 acres Bounty Land--
    Be it so, send heim (sic) a warrant for forty-
    If he is not entitled to it he says he don't want it.
    It is his request that you send him forty.
    Your most respectfuly
    ."
  • John D. Zirkle, a Justice of the Peace, signs as witness to Michael Roller's affidavit of service in 1814. He requests that his application for bounty land be examined and approved and the result sent to Louis G. Rice, possibly the post stop in New Market.
  • Michael submits an affidavit of his service and states that under the Land Warrant act of 28 Sept 1850, that he received 80 acres bounty land. He also states that he has not applied for nor received land under any other bounty land act. (What was that in 1837?)
    This affidavit shows that Michael Roller could sign his name. It is witnessed by "B. Strickler" and "Owen Batman", as persons who are personally acquainted with Michael Roller.
  • Pension Declaration under the act of 14 Feb 1871: He states that his wife is Elizabeth Driver, married 1820, and that he was a private. And that he received land under the bounty acts of 1850 and 1855. Michael's signature reflects his age, and one of the witnesses is his son, Samuel Roller, who also signs his own signature.
  • Further to Claim for Survivor's Pension for the War of 1812 -- His pension of $8 per month is granted.
    (There is a handwritten note on the cover envellope of this pension file which was also sent with the xerox copies, that the history was sent to one Robt. D. Roller of Charleston, W. Va. on 23 Mar 1905.).
  • Michael Roller left a will on 24 November 1876 at Rockingham County, Virginia, on file in Rockingham Co., dated 24 Nov 1876, states that he has about 110 acres, and a tract of timber land of 70 acres a couple of miles distant. It is willed to his grandson Michael Roller, Jr. Provision made for his wife, Elizabeth, also for his daughter, Elizabeth, wife of Joseph Spitler. The executor is son Samuel Roller.
