  • Frederick K. Hodgeman began military service, age 37, on 15 July 1862 at Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, by enlisting as a Sergeant in the 34th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He was 37, a harness maker and resident of Millbury at the time.
  • He joined a unit which organized at Camp John D. Wool, and which left 15 Aug 1862 Camp Wool for Hunter's Chapel near Arlington, VA . The 34th remained on the defense off Washington, D.C. until 9 July 1863. (This unit appears to have participated in some heavy combat only after Frederick Hodgman left.).
  • He ended military service on 5 June 1863 at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
